India’s dream run in T20I format came to an end on Tuesday against Australia where they fell 12 runs short of a 187-run target in the final T20I. Matthew Wade (80) and Glenn Maxwell (54) put on 90 runs for the 3rd wicket in only 8.4 overs to power the Aussies to a stiff total of 186/5. KL Rahul got out for a duck on the 2nd ball of the chase but Virat Kohli anchored the innings with a 60-ball 85. However, he departed in the death overs as India suffered their first T20I defeat of 2020 in their last T20I game of the year.

Here are all the statistical highlights from India’s 12-run defeat during the 3rd AUS vs IND T20I:

End of India’s unbeaten streak:

11 – India’s 11-match unbeaten streak in the T20I format came to an end with their 12-run defeat on Tuesday. Their last defeat in this format came exactly on December 8th in 2019 against West Indies in Trivandrum. The defeat also brought an end to India’s 9-match winning streak which includes Super Over victories. Both are the longest streaks for India in this format.

1 – India suffered their first defeat in the T20I format at the Sydney cricket ground. They played three T20Is at this venue against Australia before the 3rd AUS vs IND T20I but won all of them while chasing only.

A rare defeat while chasing for India:

9 – Tuesday’s defeat also brought an end to India’s 9-match winning streak in T20Is while chasing. India’s last T20I defeat while chasing was back in the 2019 tour of New Zealand. The last instance of India failing to chase a target of less than 190 was back in 2016 during their tour of Zimbabwe.

Finch and Kohli on top of captain lists:

5 – Aaron Finch now has been dismissed for a duck on five occasions in the T20I format while playing as captain. These are the joint-most number of T20I ducks for any captain alongside William Porterfield and Mashrafe Mortaza.

9 – Virat Kohli has as many as nine fifties in T20Is while leading the Indian team. These are the joint-most number of T20I fifties for any captain in Men’s cricket equaling Eoin Morgan and Kane Williamson who also have nine fifties apiece.

Big knocks from Wade and Kohli:

80 – The 80-run knock by Matthew Wade is now the highest T20I score in Men’s cricket by a wicketkeeper in Australia surpassing his 72 coming against India way back in 2012. Wade has accounted for all the three fifties by Australian wicketkeepers in Men’s T20Is. All those three came against India all of them in Sydney only (Two at the SCG and one in ANZ Stadium).

85 – Virat Kohli’s 85-run knock in this game is now the 2nd highest Men’s T20I score by any captain in Australia. The highest is Shane Watson’s unbeaten 85-run knock during the 2016 SCG T20I against India.

Kohli deals in running between the wickets:

51 – Virat Kohli became the first Indian to score 50+ non-boundary runs in a Men’s T20I innings. He hit only four fours and three sixes during his 85. He is only the 8th player to score 50+ non-boundary runs during a T20I innings in Men’s cricket.

A record knock in defeat for Kohli:

61 – Virat Kohli faced 61 balls for his 85 during the 3rd AUS vs IND T20I which is now only the 3rd instance in Men’s T20I cricket where a player faced more than 60 balls during an unsuccessful chase. Nathan Collins faced 62 balls for his 53 during Finland’s chase of 118 where they lost by 1 run against Demark last year while Tamim Iqbal scored an unbeaten 88 facing 61 balls in 2012 Dhaka T20I during Bangladesh’s chase of 198 against West Indies who won by 18 runs. Kohli’s 85 is also the highest T20I score by an Indian captain to result in a defeat.

302 – The first of the three sixes hit by Kohli during his 85-run knock got him past 300 sixes in the Twenty20 format. Virat is now only the 4th player from India to hit 300 sixes in T20 cricket.

25 – The 85-run innings was Virat Kohli’s 25th fifty in the T20I format. Kohli now equals the record for most fifty-plus scores in T20I cricket held by Rohit Sharma who has 21 fifties and 4 hundreds.

Another expensive day with the ball for Chahal:

7 – Number of times Yuzvendra Chahal has conceded 40+ runs in a T20I game; the most such instances for any Indian bowler. These are also the joint-most such instances for any spin bowler in T20I cricket alongside Mohammed Nabi.

A rare duck for Rahul:

2 – KL Rahul has been dismissed for a duck for only the 2nd time in his T20I career. Rahul’s first duck came during the 2016 T20I against Zimbabwe during his debut game of the format.
