Mitchell Swepson, the leg-break bowler from Queensland, made his debut for Australia this year in a T20I against England at Edgbaston in Birmingham. The tweaker will now take part in Australia ‘A’s quadrangular series, also involving India ‘A’, India ‘B’ and South Africa ‘A’. The 24-year old is also a part of the ‘A’ team which is scheduled to play a couple of four-day matches against India ‘A’ in September.

In the meantime, in a bid to polish his bowling prowess, he is honing his skills with Sridharan Sriram, the former Indian spinner. Sriram is currently the support staff of Australia ‘A’ led by Graeme Hick, the head coach, and assistant Ryan Harris. Sriram has attracted accolades from a number of Australia’s Test cricketers and Swepson has also heaped praises on him for guiding him to become a better spinner.

It’s a massive series for everyone

“‘Sri’ has been great. He’s been a great help for me personally as a spin bowling consultant. He’s always looking at ways I can improve my game technically and tactically as well, trying to get balls to hit the stumps, using variations and things like that. But also sticking to super-strengths and that’s trying to spin the ball hard, which is what I’ve always tried to do as a leggie,” Swepson was quoted as saying in cricket.com.au.

Australia are scheduled to play a two-match Test series in October against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Justin Langer, the national coach, has mentioned that the ‘A’ tour will be considered for the Test selection. Swepson also talked about his ambition to perform as per expectations and stake his claim in the Test squad for the upcoming series.

“It’s a massive series for everyone. Obviously, the UAE tour is coming up, I think a lot of people will be wanting to press their case for that. I certainly will be, but for me, it’s always been the same – I’ve always not looked too far ahead, look at the next game, do as best I can for the team,” he added.
