Michael Clarke has ripped into his successor and the current Australia captain Steve Smith for making the decision of tampering the ball in the ongoing third test match against South Africa.

The Australian opener Cameron Bancroft was caught by the Television cameras trying to scratch the ball with a yellow tape on the third day of the game and the opener later confessed in the press conference that he was purposefully doing that on the direction of the “leadership group” of the team, causing huge embarrassment for Australian cricket.

Smith who himself was also present at the press conference admitted his mistake and apologized to everyone, promising that it would never happen again during his regime. However, the fans around the world are of the opinion that Cricket Australia should take a strict stand on it and shouldn’t allow Smith to continue leading the side as he has brought the game to disrepute.

While Cricket Australia is yet to pass a final verdict on Smith’s position as the Australian captain, Clarke has spoken up and has clearly termed Australia’s ploy on the third day as Cheating.

Blatant cheating, claims former skipper Clarke

“It’s premeditated cheating. It’s blatant cheating. It’s disgraceful, it’s not accepted by anyone. And particularly in Australia, we have the best bowling attack in the world….wouldn’t need to cheat to beat anybody.” Clarke was quoted saying by Channel Nine earlier today.

Clarke, however, kept his comments reserved when asked if Smith should be sacked from his job. According to Clarke, he is not in a position to make such a big statement as he hasn’t had the opportunity to directly speak to any of the players involved in the incident. Whatever opinion he has formed is only on the basis of what he has seen on the screen, so he would like to do some more research before expressing his thoughts on Smith’s future.

“I don’t think it’s fair for me to answer that question right now. I’m just going on footage that I’ve seen. I haven’t spoken to any players. I think I would need to do a lot more groundwork before I could make that decision.” Clarke added.
