After failing to defend totals in excess of 295 in three consecutive games, India failed to chase a 300 plus total after putting themselves in the best possible position to chase it down. After winning the toss, Australia decided to bat first this time. Thanks to a brilliant opening stand between David Warner and Aaron Finch they put on a mammoth total of 348 for the loss of 8 wickets. Finch smashed a century while Warner fell 7 runs short of his century. Captain Smith scored a quickfire fifty with Maxwell finishing off with a cameo innings.
India got off to best possible start with Rohit Sharma beginning the innings with a confident knock. Dhawan and Kohli carried it on with centuries. India were placed at 277 for loss of 1 wicket with less than run-a- ball needed. But they lost Dhawan, Kohli, and Dhoni in the space of just a run.
