The format changed but Pakistan’s fate didn’t as they lost the first ODI against Australia at Brisbane despite reducing the hosts to 78/5, who elected to bat first. It was Matthew Wade, who rescued his side and scored his maiden ODI century to hand his side a respectable total of 268/9. Once Pakistan lost their first wicket, there was no stopping the hemorrhage as they were bowled out for 176. Here we look at all the stats and records recorded during the game.

1 – Matthew Wade became the first player to score an ODI century coming in at No.7 or lower. Previous highest for a player at No.7 or lower in an ODI in Australia was 86 by Wasim Akram vs Australia in 1990 at Melbourne.

1 – Mohammad Hafeez became the first spinner to open the bowling in an ODI at Gabba, Brisbane.

1 – Kumar Sangakkara is the only player in ODI history to score centuries in 4 consecutive innings. Babar Azam scored 3 ODI centuries in 3 games before this game but scored only 33 in this.

2 – Matthew Wade became the 2nd Australian after James Faulkner and 13th player overall to score an ODI century coming to bat at No.7 or lower. This is the 14th such instance in ODIs with MS Dhoni doing it twice.

2 – Matthew Wade became the 2nd Australian to complete his ODI century on the last ball of the 50th over. Damien Martyn completed his in century on the last ball of Australia’s innings at Hobart against England in 2003.

3 – Steven Smith became the 3rd Australian captain to bag ducks in consecutive ODI innings. Kim Hughes in 1981 and Steve Waugh in 1997 are the other two.

4 – Number of catches taken by Mohammad Rizwan in this game. He became the 8th Pakistan wicketkeeper to take 4 catches in an ODI.

16 – Number of consecutive games that Pakistan lost down under vs Australia. Since their last win in 2005 in an ODI, they lost all the 16 International games against Australia in Australia including 9 ODIs.

78 – Runs at which Australia lost their 5th wicket in this game. This is the 3rd lowest score at which they lost their 5th wicket in the first innings and ended up on the winning side. They lost for 62 in 1992 vs West Indies at Sydney and for 73 in 2008 vs India at Adelaide.

190 – Runs aggregated by Australia after losing their 5th wicket in this game, their 2nd most in an ODI. They scored 194 runs after losing their 5th wicket in 2013 against India at Bangalore.

2010 – Last time before Matthew Wade, an Australian wicketkeeper scored an ODI century was Brad Haddin who scored 110 in 2010 vs New Zealand.

2013 – Last time before Steven Smith, an Australian captain bagged a golden duck in ODIs was Shane Watson in 2013 vs West Indies.
