India can finally heave a sigh of relief as they registered their maiden victory in a One-day International outside home in 2020. The visitors registered a comprehensive victory against Australia in the final ODI at Manuka Oval in Canberra by 13 runs. Though Australia won the series by 2-1, this win will be a major morale booster for India ahead of the T20I and Test series.

Virat Kohli finally won the toss in the series and decided to bat first. The opening woes for the Indian team continued as the left-hander Shikhar Dhawan lost his wicket cheaply in the sixth over, while playing at 16. This was followed by a Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli show as the duo stitched an important partnership of 56 runs in 10 overs. However, the hosts made a comeback in the game as Ashton Agar sent Gill back to the pavilion.

He was soon followed by Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul. After 32 overs, India was reeling at 152 for 5 as Kohli got out after smashing 63 runs off 78 deliveries. Though Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja had a slow start, they executed a carnage in the last seven overs and hammered the ball like anything to collect 93 runs. Pandya and Jadeja remained not out on 92 and 66 respectively and guided the team towards a decent total of 302 runs in 50 overs.

Indian bowlers make a comeback in the series

Chasing a target of 303, Australia lost its first wicket in the sixth over as the debutant T Natarajan named Marnus Labuschagne as his maiden international wicket. The Indian bowlers finally got in the groove and managed to find their rhythm as they took timely wickets to ensure that no partnership was formed in the middle.

Though towards the end of the innings, the match was slipping for the visitors as all-rounder Glenn Maxwell started hitting the ball all over the park, Jasprit Bumrah gave the much-needed breakthrough by taking the priced wicket of Maxwell. After that, it was a cakewalk for India as they took all the ten wickets of the opposition within 49.3 overs. Shardul Thakur emerged as the highest wicket-taker for India with 3 wickets while Bumrah and Natarajan had two each to their name.
