Australia vs India, 2018: 3rd T20I – Statistical Preview

Team India will lock horns with Australia for one last time in the three-match T20I series after missing out on the first two matches affected by rain. With Australia leading the series 1-0, India doesn’t have a chance to win the series. However, they can stop the Aussies from winning a bilateral T20I series/one-off against them for the first time in ten years. The Australian side hasn’t won a series/tournament in any format since the controversial ball-tampering incident. They will be hoping to win the final game and move to No.3 in the ICC T20I team rankings.

All the key stats and numbers ahead of the final T20I match in Sydney:

1 – The washout ensured India’s seven T20I series/tournament winning streak came to an end. This is also the first time India won’t be winning a T20I bilateral series of three and more games. India won all the nine T20I bilateral series of three matches before this. The last game of the 2015 series against South Africa (lost 2-0) and the 2017 series against Australia (Draw 1-1) were abandoned without a toss.

4-1 – Australia has a win-loss record of 4-1 in the T20I matches at the Sydney Cricket Ground. The only time they lost at this venue in T20Is was against India in 2016 that too on the final ball of the game.

8 – Eight of the last nine Twenty20 matches played at the Sydney Cricket Ground were won by the teams batting second. The only team to win batting first in these last nine matches were Adelaide Strikers’ by six runs against Sydney Sixers.

10 – This will be the 10th time India play the 3rd match of a bilateral T20I series. They won all the previous nine matches.

30 – Andrew Tye bagged 30 wickets in the T20I format in the 17 matches he played in 2018. These are the most T20I wickets by any player in a calendar year. His 1/47 in three overs in the Brisbane game is the 2nd worst in terms of economy in T20Is behind 2/64 in four overs during the high-scoring Auckland T20I against New Zealand earlier this year.

2214 – Runs Rohit Sharma has scored in T20I cricket thus far. He needs 58 more runs to become the leading run-getter in the Men’s T20I cricket surpassing Marin Guptill’s tally of 2271. Rohit also needs four more sixes to become the 3rd player after Chris Gayle (103) and Guptill (103) to hit over 100 sixes in the T20I format.
