The ongoing second Test in Perth witnessed yet another enthralling day. Virat Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane, the indomitable trio, soaked in all the pressure after being reduced to 8/2 in the sixth over and played some attritional Test cricket in order to stage a stellar comeback. Though Pujara scored only 24 runs, the fact that he faced the music for more than 100 deliveries makes his knock look a huge one in the context of the game for India.

He kept the Australian bowlers at bay along with Kohli when the likes of Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood were spitting venom. Even the third seamer Pat Cummins were refusing to relent with his consistent lines and lengths. Kohli was troubled a lot during his first spell as there were a lot of plays and misses. But the duo didn’t deter. Having said that, the Indian skipper got off to a flyer.

He scored four boundaries in his first 12 balls and race away to 19 and then concentrated hard on not giving away his wicket. Meanwhile, Pujara continued the way he plays and blunted the ball. Both of them were looking comortable and weren’t doing anything flashy. This is where the Aussies opted for a short-ball barrage and Starc struck.

Pujara was strangled down the leg-side and slow run-rate meant that Australia were suddenly ahead in the game. Rahane came out and the bowlers continued with the same strategy. This is where they missed the trick. India’s vice-captain took the attack to the opposition. He slashed hard whenever there was room and like Kohli did, raced to 23 off just 22 balls.

This forced Australia to go back to sme traditional bowling. However, the job was done until then as two of India’s best batsmen were seeing the ball like a football. They didn’t deter until the stumps as India ended the day on 172/3 still trailing by 154 runs. While Kohli is looking good on 82, his deputy is solid as ever unbeaten on 51.

Tail doesn’t wag for a change

Early in the morning, Tim Paine and Pat Cummins continued to frustrate the visitors. The duo didn’t give away their wicket in the first over. But at the same time, they didn’t score runs as well. Eventually Umesh Yadav bowled a beauty to castle the latter and then the tail unfolded quickly. Australia lost their last four wickets for just 16 runs.

But the way India had started with KL Rahul and Murali Vijay seeing their furnitures disturbed, many felt that the worse is in store for the visitors. However, that wasn’t to be thanks to India’s trio in the middle.

Though Rahul and Vijay couldn’t score runs, they were trending on social media as the fans were busy trolling with some hilarious memes.
