Just when the Indian fans thought Ambati Rayudu’s emergence solved their number four problem in the ODI setup, a new conundrum is haunting skipper Virat Kohli. With KL Rahul and Murali Vijay miserably misfiring Down Under, the selectors were left with no other choice but to call up Mayank Agarwal to open the innings at the MCG on Boxing Day.

The Karnataka man didn’t disappoint, scoring a brilliant 76 off 161 deliveries. Just like his fellow state mate KL Rahul, he made his debut at the MCG but unlike Rahul, Mayank registered a fifty on debut. With Prithvi Shaw all set to come back in a short while, it will be difficult for Rahul to get back into the XI.

Talking about his companion Agarwal, who also shares the dressing room with him in IPL for the Kings XI Punjab, Rahul said he is the most hardworking person and one of his inspirations in the dressing room. He also added that the 27-year-old is an absolute beast and someone he looked up to during training sessions.

“He [Agarwal] is the most hardworking person I have seen in the dressing room, growing up. He is one of my inspiration in the dressing room when we used to play together. I used to see him, hitting the gym, hitting the nets or doing the running… he is an absolute beast. I used to look at him and ask him ‘can we train together?’,” Rahul said as quoted by BCCI.tv.

Quality of Australian bowling was too good: Mayank

Mayank has been knocking the doors for a fairly long time now and after a long wait, he finally got his reward. After getting a taste of International cricket, he was full of praises for Australian bowling attack and said he wants to face many intense challenges.

“The quality of [Australia’s] bowling was very good. They play their cricket hard. They hit hard lengths, they kept testing you, kept bowling good balls. the intensity at which they played was something that I have never played before. As a person, I want to be in those challenges and go out and give my best,” Agarwal said.
