Former Australian legend Matthew Hayden believes that Virat Kohli’s India will win the ongoing four-match Test series against Australia which is currently evenly poised at 1-1 with two matches still to be played. The visitors won the first Test match at Adelaide by 31 runs but the hosts came back strongly in the second match at Perth winning it quite comprehensively and thus leveling the series.

The Southpaw feels that with two Tests still to be played and considering the balanced side India has with an extremely balanced team and settled bowling unit, Kohli and Co. holds an edge. The former tall left-hander thinks that with great depth in the bowling department especially spin, India has an upper hand and will emerge victoriously.

Hayden, who played 103 Tests and amassed 8625 runs at an average over 50, agrees with coach Ravi Shastri saying that India has sent to Australia the ‘most complete’ team to have ever toured the country. He feels Kohli-led team has to work on its batting and concentrate more on building partnerships which they haven’t been able to do yet.

It’s hard to win away from home and this will prove to be no different

The 47-year-old was quoted as saying in The Mumbai Mirror, “I think India should clinch the series. Why? Because, they have a balanced side, an extremely settled bowling unit, and depth in spin. It is hard to win away from home and this will prove to be no different. But India should win, they really are the favorites, they need good partnerships, which they have not had.”

“I think it is. I think it is the most complete Indian team to have ever toured (Australia). India has incredible batting depth, it is very confident in the spin bowling department, it is good in fast bowling too. The young wicketkeeper (Rishabh Pant) is a real breath of fresh air, he will be a very good find for Test cricket. The fast bowling unit speaks for itself. Bhuvneshwar Kumar is not even playing in the XI,” Hayden observed.

The Boxing Day Test starts from December 26 which will soon be followed by the new year Test which will be played at Sydney, starting January 3.
