Team India, after the debacle in Adelaide, needed a spirited performance to make a come back in the Test series against Australia. With Mohammed Shami and Virat Kohli unavailable for different reasons, the visitors further weakened. Accordingly, India handed a debut to Mohammed Siraj and Shubman Gill while also making a couple more changes to their line-up.

And one of the debutants has already made an impact in the game on the first day of the Boxing Day Test. Mohammed Siraj picked Marnus Labuschagne as his maiden wicket in Tests and has been bowling well. He continued his good work with the ball in the final session as well and trapped Cameron Green in front of the stumps.

However, the dismissal didn’t come easily for the pacer. He planned it bowling back to back out-swingers and short of a length deliveries keeping Green on back-foot. Mohammed Siraj then suddenly pitched one up when the batsman was least expecting with the ball swinging in to him sharply and hitting his back leg.

A vociferous appeal followed and the umpire had no hesitation in raising his finger. Cameron Green took the review but to no avail as the hawk-eye showed the ball was hitting the stumps. Even the commentators praised Siraj for nicely plotting the dismissal.

Here’s the video:

Mohammed Siraj impresses on debut

Mohammed Siraj made his debut in the ongoing MCG Test and looked class apart so far with the ball. He was introduced into the attack in the post lunch session and seemed ordinary in his first spell. But then he began to breathe fire in the second spell and has bowled to the plan stepping up into the shoes of Mohammed Shami. India needed someone like Shami to bowl with pace when the ball gets old and Siraj has stepped up.

The likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Ravi Ashwin have also raised to the occasion living up to the expectations skittling Australia’s wickets early. India will now be hoping to bat well and take a big lead in the first innings.
