The Indian cricket team is on the verge of creating history. The side has retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy by defeating Australia in the third Test by 137 runs. The aim now would be to go a step further and register the first-ever Test series win down under with either a win or at least a draw in Sydney.

This series is also a great milestone for skipper Virat Kohli. He has been on a roll in recent times and is jots away from becoming India’s most successful Test captain. The team has won 26 Tests thus far under the leadership of the 30-year-old. Virat is just one Test away from levelling MS Dhoni’s record of 27 Test wins.

A special mention for the pace-trio

The Indian pace unit was never as strong as it is now. The bowlers are consistently picking up 20 wickets in every game which is making all success possible. The troika of Jasprit Bumrah, Ishant Sharma and Mohammed Shami deserve a special mention here. They have yielded some terrific results over the past few months and hence got the special mention in the skipper’s post.

These three have now picked 138 wickets in this calendar year in away Tests, which is the most by any. The previous record was held by Garner/Holding/Marshall (130) in 1984. In his tweet, Virat Kohli also shared a picture with the entire team as well as the support staff. In another picture, it was a selfie of him along with Bumrah who picked a nine-wicket haul in the game and thus was the ‘Man of the Match’.

‘What a win!! Proud to be part of this unit. Onto Sydney now. Jai hind,’ wrote Virat Kohli in his tweet. The Sydney Test begins on 3 January 2019.
