The 3-match T20I series between Australia and Pakistan started off with a washout as the first T20I in Sydney ended without a result. Pakistan might consider themselves lucky to get away without a defeat as Australia were 41/0 in 3.1 overs chasing a revised target of 119 from 15 overs. Aaron Finch’s 16-ball 37* put Australia well ahead on the DLS but at least 5 overs had to be completed for deriving a result. Earlier, Pakistan finished with 107/5 in the restricted 15 overs. Babar Azam, Pakistan’s new T20I skipper alone scored an unbeaten 59 runs from 38 deliveries.

All the statistical highlights from the washed-out first T20I in Sydney between Australia and Pakistan:

A winning streak ended in an unfortunate way:

5 – The wash out brings an end to Australia’s 5-match winning streak in the T20I format. Only once Australia have won more T20Is in succession – 6 in a row during the 2010 WT20 before they lost in the final.

A day of records for Babar:

11 – Babar Azam now has 11 fifties in the T20I cricket; the most by any player for Pakistan. The previous most are 10 by Mohammad Hafeez who batted in 86 innings while Babar reached there in only 34.

59 – Babar’s 59 in this game is now the highest individual score on T20I captaincy debut for a Pakistan player. Shahid Afridi scored exactly 50 on his captaincy debut in the T20I format. Azam has three fifty-plus scores in 5 T20 matches as captain.

1551 – Babar Azam has amassed 1551 runs in the Twenty20 format this year across 37 innings. These are the 3rd most T20 runs by any player in a calendar year behind Chris Gayle’s 1,665 runs in 2015 and Virat Kohli’s 1,614 runs in 2016. Babar still has two T20 innings in 2019 and will need 115 runs in those to break Gayle’s record.

Finch betters Afridi:

181 – Aaron Finch’s 2nd innings in this game was his 200th in International cricket. He is only the 5th player from Australia and 24th overall to his 200 sixes across all International formats. Finch needed only 181 innings for this feat; the fewest innings among all the 24 players. Shahid Afridi was the previous fastest to 200 International sixes as he needed 214 innings.

Back to back ducks for Fakhar:

3 – Fakhar Zaman became only the 3rd Pakistan player to be dismissed for a golden duck in consecutive T20I matches. Umar Akmal in the recent T20I series at home against Sri Lanka and Mohammad Hafeez in 2012 bagged golden ducks in successive T20Is. Saeed Ajmal in 2013 also had golden ducks in consecutive T20I innings.

More than 100 balls without a result:

109 – Number of balls bowled during the Sydney T20I; the 9th most in a washed-out match. The highest is 141 deliveries during the England-Ireland game in the WT20 2010. England posted 120/8 batting full 20 overs while Ireland were 14/1 in 3.3 overs before the rain interruption.

2 – This is only the 2nd washed out T20I game which has been hosted by Australia. The other game was between the hosts and India in Melbourne during the 2018/19 season.
