Australia vs Pakistan, 2019: 3-match T20I series – Statistical Preview

In less than 48 hours after completing a whitewash against Sri Lanka, the Australian team is set to take on Pakistan in a 3-match T20I series. The two teams have not faced in a T20I game on Australian soil in the last nine years. This series will be a crucial one for Pakistan who is on the verge of losing their No.1 T20I ranking which they owned for the majority of the last two years. Another 0-3 T20I series defeat could see them overtaken by Australia who at No.4 but are unbeaten in this format this year.

All the key stats and numbers ahead of the 3-match T20I series between Australia and Pakistan:

1 – Only once Australia and Pakistan faced off in a T20I match on Australian soil. The only game was hosted by Melbourne in 2010 which the hosts won by two runs while defending 127.

1-3 – Babar Azam has captained in four Twenty20 matches prior to taking up the Pakistan T20I team’s captaincy – all four during the recent National T20 Cup. The Central Punjab team he led won only one of the four games.

3 – Pakistan lost all the three T20I series they played in 2019. They lost six out of the seven T20I matches played this year including each of their last four.

Pakistan won each of their last 11 T20I series/tournaments coming in 2019 and lost only of the 33 matches they played in the T20I format among those.

5 – Pakistan won each of its last five T20I matches against Australia. The last instance of the Aussies defeating Pakistan in a T20I was during the last year’s Tri-series in Zimbabwe. Overall, Pakistan won 12 and lost seven of the 20 T20I meetings against Australia. Another game ended in a Tie in which Pakistan won the Super over.

5 – Australia won all the five matches they played in 2019 which equals their 2nd longest streak in T20I cricket. Their longest winning streak in T20Is is six matches during the 2010 WT20.

15/22 – David Warner has scored 15 fifty-plus scores in 22 Twenty20 innings in 2019. Warner amassed 1132 runs in those 22 innings at an average of 70.75 with help of two hundreds and 13 fifties. The Australian opener also scored fifties in each of his last four T20I innings.

46 – Shadab Khan has taken 46 wickets from only 35 T20I matches. He needs four more wickets to become the 7th player to take 50 T20I wickets for Pakistan.

217* – David Warner scored 217 runs in the last week’s T20I series against Sri Lanka without getting dismissed. He needs 24 more runs to beat the record held by Aaron Finch of most runs between two dismissals in T20I cricket. The current Australia captain amassed 240 runs between his two dismissals in T20Is in 2018 across two innings.

1492 – Babar Azam has scored the most number of runs and centuries in the Twenty20 format in 2019. The new Pakistan T20I skipper has scored 1492 runs from 36 innings at an average of 45.21. He struck 10 fifties and all his three centuries in the T20 format this year old.
