The cricket on the field between India and Australia has been fierce this season. The off the field antics and drama has not been shy of being hostile either. Recently, the former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman had condemned the actions of Glenn Maxwell, who had mocked Virat Kohli’s shoulder injury on the field. Now, the Australian media, instead of accepting his words, have hit back at Laxman with harsh comments over his remarks.

The entire scene dates back to day 3 of the third Test between the two sides played at Ranchi. Aussie all-rounder Glenn Maxwell was seen mocking Virat’s shoulder injury by touching his shoulder as if he has injured himself too. Also, much against all the expectations, the Australian skipper Steve Smith chose to stay mum over the entire incident.

Many condemned his actions and VVS Laxman was very vocal about the entire episode too. In a conversation with Star Sports, Laxman pointed out that the behaviour shown by Maxwell, as well as the tight-lipped nature of the skipper Steve Smith was not a good example set for the game of cricket. He noted that the sledging is any way acceptable in the game but trying to insult someone who is in pain is utterly disgusting.

He related the entire scene to the Phil Hughes incident as well. Now, this did not go down well with the Australian media, who have been quite harsh on team India this season, particularly on Virat Kohli. They targeted VVS Laxman and called his comments as ‘ill-informed attack on Smith’s leadership’.

They felt it was totally irrelevant to bring the Phil Hughes incident in the fray which had nothing to do with this incident. The Courier Mail and News Corp Australia have described the comments made by the former Indian batsman as ‘depressingly ill-advised’. They have further added that the veteran commentator has ‘waded into the murky waters’ with his comments on Maxwell and Smith.
