Australian Off-Spinner, Nathan Lyon Expects a Dominating Performance from Australia in the Test Series: The Aussies have headed onto the Caribbean to play a test series against West Indies prior to the all-important Ashes. An on that note, in such a spin-oriented track, it could well turn out to be the hunting ground for the most prolific off-spinner of Australian Cricket, Nathan Lyon. The pitches might be apt for Lyon’s style of bowling.
However, the most of the focus of the Australian bench in Dominica has been upon the would be test-debutant leg spinner Fawad Ahmed, Nathan Lyon has been in good patch of bowling. After returning from an injury, Lyon bowled as many as 40 overs in the practice match against West Indies President’s XI last week. He finished up with figures of 2 for 125 in the match. The figures might seem to be indecent statistically but the number of half chances he created on such a dead track in Antigua did prove his presence of form in the game.
The 27-year old Australian offie practised a good number of overs at the Winsdor Park on Sunday. The pitch is regarded as one which favours the cause of the spinners to a massive extent and Lyon would surely try to exploit the fullest from such a track. Lyon also possesses some great memories of this ground from the past. It was at this ground where he took 7 for 75 in the third and final test against West Indies back in 2012 and Australia won the series.
Lyon seemed to be pretty relaxed about the match. His words were as such, “It’s exciting. You’re playing Test match cricket for Australia in the Caribbean. It can’t get much better, I don’t think.”
Lyon also mentioned of the fact that there are a lot of expectations upon him and also upon the team as a whole. And it is their duty to come up to the occasions and produce the expected.
Lyon also stated that he is pretty much aware of his role in the team and he would always try to produce his best at any point of the game.
He further added, “There’s a good bowling unit here and we work well together and we work hard together and that’s the best thing about it. We bowl in partnerships and we look to take 20 wickets and that’s the main thing.”
On being asked about the prospect and set up to the game, Lyon said that he does not worry about the game as it creates extra amount of pressure. At the moment, he would simply be focusing upon his game and produce what is needed for the good of the team.
He also said that he would like to consult with their skipper, Michael Clarke and frame strategies based upon game situations to ensure that the Aussies are always in cruise control of the match.
