Australian pacer Shaun Tait becomes an Overseas Citizen of India

Former Australian speed-gun Shaun Tait, who has married the Indian model Mashoom Singha, announced on Twitter that he has now become an Overseas Citizen of India.

Tait, who is considered one of the deadliest bowlers in world cricket who can consistently click over 155 km/hr has played cricket all over the world. He has represented various top domestic T20 teams such as Rajasthan Royals, Kolkatta Knight Riders, Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Renegades claiming 218 wickets in only 171 appearances.

The speed-gun met his wife Mashoom in India for the first time in 2010 while he was playing for his former side Rajasthan Royals at an IPL after-party. The couple dated for four years before their announced their marriage in 2014 on Twitter.

Tait is often identified as the second fastest bowler in Cricketing history when he clocked 161.1 km/hr against their arch rivals England in 2010 at Oval. Tait shares his record with the fellow Australian speed-gun Brett Lee, who is currently in the commentary team for Australia’s tour of India.

The 34-year-old right-arm quick made his international debut against England in the longest format of cricket in 2005. His One Day International debut came against the same opposition at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) where he picked up two wickets for 69 runs in his ten overs. The quick went on to represent his country three times with the baggy green.

Although his Test career was limited, he played 35 ODI’s and 21 T20I’s picking up 95 wickets in total. His retirement in the ODI format came after Australia’s loss to India in the World Cup 2011 which hosted by India. Tait did not give up on cricket, playing for the BBL side Hobart Hurricanes.

Holding an Overseas Citizen of India card allows the Australian pacer Tait to enjoy all the benefits of being an Indian citizen except for the right to vote and the hold public office.
