Australian batsman D Arcy Short has made a tremendous progress in his cricket career. About a season ago, not many knew about him. Now, he has had a dramatic turnaround. He helped his state team, Western Australia, register a brilliant win in the JLT One-Day cup. Soon, he was the breakthrough player in the 2017-18 season of the Big Bash League where he played for the Hobart Hurricanes.

The exceptional run of form saw him make his international debut. To add to this, he bagged an IPL deal as well. As per the recent quotes in ESPNcricinfo, D Arcy Short revealed that there was a time when he pondered quitting cricket. However, he hung on to stay afloat and finally got his due share of opportunities at all the platforms that he ever dreamt of.

“I was probably close to giving it up for a while. It’s been quite a whirlwind experience in the last 12 months,” D Arcy Short quoted.

On the IPL experience

The IPL experience was not a great one for him. He arrived in the competition riding on a big reputation. But his first two outings for the Rajasthan Royals saw him bag two run outs. He went on to play 7 matches but could not score any fifty. He struggled against the spin. Short remarked that he hopes to learn from the mistakes and do better in the seasons to come.

“The IPL experience was quite a different one for me, I struggled a little bit at the start – got run out twice which wasn’t the greatest start for me – but it was definitely a good experience in the end and hopefully I’ve learnt a lot from it. I faced a lot of spin over there so hopefully I can put that to use. Working on that and different parts of my game rather than being one-dimensional,” Short remarked.

On his wrist spin

D Arcy Short is keen on adding more to his skill sets. In the recent times, he has been working very hard on his wrist spin. He even bowled a few overs in the IPL this season. Also, at the RR camp, he got along with legendary bowler Shane Warne. Commenting on his bowling, Short remarked that it is shaping up well.

“It’s come a long way in a short amount of time and I’m feeling pretty confident with it,” he conceded.
