Australian Travis Head smashes 202 off 120 to create domestic record: South Australia (SA) captain Travis Head smashed 202 off 120 balls to lead his team to a six-wicket win over Western Australia in Sydney in the Matador Cup, Australia’s domestic one-day competition. Chasing 351 at Sydney’s Hurstville Oval, the Redbacks reached their target with six wickets and 21 balls to spare in a game which produced 29 sixes, a double century and three centuries. Head added 278 for the third wicket with Australian representative Callum Ferguson (112 not out off 118 balls) in 32 overs.

Not only did the Redbacks go deep in the chase, they blew it out of the water. It was Head’s first ever century for his state, ending a painful drought of 41 matches without three figures across first-class and one-day cricket.

Western Australia warriors also had two century-makers in their score of 4-350, with Bancroft (176 off 155) and Marsh 109 off 104) putting on a Warriors one-day opening partnership record off 216 in a little more than 36 overs. Both men were part of the Australian squad for the postponed Test tour of Bangladesh and helped their prospects of a call-up for the coming home series against New Zealand.

Head, 21, the youngest captain in SA history, notched the biggest one-day score by a Redback. It was also the first time a batsmen scored a double ton while chasing in a one day match. Joel Paris was the only bowler who was able to make some sort of impact, taking 3/63 from 9 overs, and still giving more than 6 runs per over.

Brief Scores:

South Australia 4 for 354 (Head 202, Ferguson 112*) beat Western Australia 4 for 350 (Bancroft 176*, S Marsh 109) by 6 wickets.
