Azhar Ali delighted to catch up with Murali Vijay

Both batsmen had impressive stints in English domestic cricket.

Azhar Ali has been one of the most reliable top-order batsmen Pakistan have ever produced, especially in Test cricket. In red-ball cricket at the highest level, the 33-year-old has notched 5202 runs in 65 Tests at an impressive average of 44.84. The right-hander’s top score of 302 not out came against Windies at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on October 2016.

Recently, the Lahore-born cricketer plied his trade for Somerset in the English County Championship Division 1. He played seven matches in which he scored 402 runs at an average of 33.50. His top score of 125 came against Worcestershire, which was also his first match. He also racked up a couple of gutsy half-centuries against Yorkshire and Surrey respectively.

He is next scheduled to take part in Pakistan’s two-match Test series against Australia, which gets underway on October 7 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). In the meantime, he met Indian batsman Murali Vijay, who played for Essex. Vijay has had a topsy-turvy run of late in his cricketing career. He flattered to deceive in India’s five-match Test series against England.

When Azhar met Vijay

He bagged a pair in the second Test at Lord’s after which he was sidelined from the eleven. To add to his agony, he was also left out of the squad for the last two matches in The Ageas Bowl and Kennington Oval respectively. However, he impressed in his maiden County stint for Essex having scored 323 runs in three matches at an average of 64.60.

Both Azhar and Vijay recently met while returning from the United Kingdom The former was elated after meeting Vijay. Subsequently, he took to Twitter and posted their picture. He captioned the picture and wrote, “It was really nice catching up with @mvj888 on the way back from uk… had a great chat and flight time gone past very quickly… #respect,”
