Babar Azam is arguably one of the best batters in the world right now and even Australia cricketer Nathan Lyon has no doubt about it. Babar is currently ranked as the number one ODI and T20I batter under ICC rankings and is placed ninth on the Test batter’s charts. He has been Pakistan’s mainstay batter for a while now by contributing to the team’s cause almost every time he takes the field.

Speaking of the same, Lyon stated that he has always backed himself to go up against the best players in the world and he feels the Pakistani captain is one of those players. Lyon who himself has been a top contributor for Australia with more than 400 Test wickets to his name, will be leading Australia’s spin attack in their upcoming Test series against Pakistan.

The veteran bowler is willing to compete against a solid batting lineup in Pakistan and appears more than willing to perform well by challenging himself. “I have always said from day one of my career that I want to compete against the best players in the world, and Babar is definitely one of those guys,” Lyon said in a virtual press conference, as quoted by Khaleej Times.

“I can’t wait to challenge myself, but there are some unbelievable batters in this Pakistan line-up that I am going to have some decent challenges with,” he added.

My mindset is to be here in Pakistan and win 3-0: Nathan Lyon

Nathan Lyon also spoke about his desire to see his team win the series 3-0. While admitting to the conditions being tough, the bowler suggested Australia has a well-rounded squad that can win in all sorts of conditions. Australia’s historic tour to Pakistan constitutes three Tests, three ODIs and one T20I. It is for the first time since 1999 that the team would be on an international assignment in the Southeast Asian nation.

The first Test starts in Rawalpindi on March 4th. “To be honest, my mindset in every game I go into is to win and not go into to draw or lose it, so my mindset is to be here in Pakistan and win 3-0,” Lyon added.
