Pakistan skipper Babar Azam has again managed to leapfrog the Indian skipper Virat Kohli as he registered his name as the fastest cricket player to achieve the milestone of scoring a stunning 2000 runs in the shortest format of the game. Virat previously held this record as he scored 2000 T20I runs in 56 innings but Azam accomplished the feat in just 52 innings.

Baba became the proud owner of this illustrious feat during the third T20 International between Pakistan and Zimbabwe. Playing against Zimbabwe, Azam scored a stunning 52 runs in just 46 deliveries including four boundaries. The 26-year-old became only the 11th player to score 2000 runs in T20Is.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) took to its official Twitter handle to congratulate Babar Azam after becoming the fastest batsmen to score 2000 T20I runs.

“The brilliant Babar Azam bags another record,” congratulated the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Twitter.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Pakistan foreign office also extended their greetings to the Pakistan skipper. “Babar Azam becomes the fastest batsman to 2000 T20I runs. He has taken only 52 innings to achieve the feat!” ICC tweeted.

“Congratulations to skipper Babar Azam for being the fastest batsman in the world to reach 2,000 T20I runs in only 52 innings,” said the Foreign Office.

Pakistan script a victory in the T20I series

Pakistan and Zimbabwe were involved in the series-decider at the Harare Sports Club in Harare. The first T20 International was won by the Men in Green by 11 runs while Zimbabwe managed to clinch the second game by 19 runs.

The third T20 International commenced with Babar Azam winning the toss and inviting the hosts to field first. Batting first, Pakistan registered a comprehensive total of 165 runs as Mohammad Rizwan scored a stunning 91 runs in just 60 balls. He was aptly supported by the skipper who added 52 runs to the scoreboard.

Chasing 166, the hosts put up a decent fight as the opening batter Wesley Madhevere scored 59 runs. Hasan Ali shined with the ball for Pakistan as he took four wickets to ensure a 24-run victory to Pakistan.
