Bangladesh registered a comfortable 6-wicket win against West Indies in their first appearance in the ODI CWC Super League. After losing the toss, West Indies were bundled out for only 122 runs as Shakib Al Hasan bagged a 4-wicket haul. Hasan Mahmud bagged three wickets on debut as the Caribbean team lost their last five wickets for 7 runs. Bangladesh lost four wickets and needed 33.5 overs to chase down the target as the debutant Akeal Hosein kept things tight with analyses of 10-1-26-3.

Here are all the statistical highlights from Bangladesh’s clinical victory during the first ODI at Dhaka:

Shakib’s strong comeback:

1.09Shakib Al Hasan had an economy rate of 1.09 during the first ODI as he finished with analyses of 7.2-2-8-4. This is the best economy for Bangladesh in a Men’s ODI while bowling 40+ balls. The previous most economical bowling for Bangladesh was also recorded by Shakib with an economy of 1.1 in the 2009 Dhaka ODI against Zimbabwe (10-4-11-3).

4/8 – Shakib Al Hasan’s 4/8 is now the cheapest 4-wicket haul for Bangladesh in Men’s ODI cricket. Taijul Islam, on his ODI debut in the 2014 Dhaka ODI against Zimbabwe, had figures of 4/11 which was the previous cheapest 4-fer in the format for Bangladesh.

153 – Shakib completed 150 wickets in ODI cricket with his first of four wickets on Wednesday. He is now the first player with 150+ ODI wickets in Bangladesh and also the 5th player with 150+ ODI wickets in a country. The first ODI against West Indies was also the 100th ODI at home for the all-rounder.

A game of debutants:

6 – The six debutants in the West Indies line-up on Wednesday are the joint 2nd most for any full-member team in a Men’s ODI in the last 42 years. New Zealand had six debutants during the 2003 Lahore ODI against Pakistan while South Africa fielded ten debutants against India in the 1991 Kolkata ODI which was their first-ever ODI match (Kepler Wessels had already made his ODI debut for Australia).

1991 – The 1991 Kolkata ODI between South Africa and India was also the only Men’s ODI between two full member countries in the last 42 years to have seven or more players making ODI debut.

The 1991 Kolkata ODI was marked to be the ODI debut of South Africa where 11 players made their ODI debut – India’s Pravin Amre and 10 South Africans. On Wednesday, Hasan Mahmud made his ODI debut alongside six West Indians.

A record debut for Akeal:

3/26 – Akeal Hosein’s bowling figures of 3/26 are now the best by a spinner on ODI debut for West Indies. Roger Harper’s 3/34 against India in the 1983 Srinagar ODI were the previous best bowling figures for West Indies by a spinner on ODI debut.

Akeal is also the first left-arm spinner to pick three or more wickets on ODI debut for West Indies. His figures of 3/26 are also the 7th best for West Indies on ODI debut and the best since Tino Best’s 4/35 against Bangladesh in the 2004 Kingstown ODI.

26 – The 26 runs conceded by Akeal Hosein are the joint 6th fewest on ODI debut for West Indies while bowling 10 or more overs. Akeal’s 26 runs are also the fewest on ODI debut for West Indies since Deighton Butler’s 25 runs in the 2005 Dambulla ODI against Sri Lanka.

A rare less experienced team for West Indies

105 – West Indies had a playing XI of 105 ODI caps during the first ODI which are the fewest for any full member nation in a Men’s ODI match in the past 11 years. Jason Mohammed, Rovman Powell, Sunil Ambris, Raymon Reifer and Alzarri Joseph were the only players in the West Indies’ line-up to have featured in an ODI before Wednesday.

The last team to field an XI with 105 or fewer ODI caps in an ODI match was also West Indies when they had a playing XI with 100 ODI caps during the 2009 Dominica ODI against Bangladesh. These 105 ODI caps are also the 3rd fewest for West Indies in a Men’s ODI in the past 40 years.

1978 – West Indies fielding six ODI debutants in the first match against Bangladesh was only the 2nd such instance for them since their debut in the format against England in 1973. West Indies had six debutants in the 1978 St Lucia ODI against Australia where they lost by two wickets.
