Former South African pacer Allan Donald will take over as the new bowling coach of the Bangladesh side until the T20 World Cup coming up this year. Bangladesh has been growing in leaps and bounds in terms of their fast bowling abilities and their recent Test victory in New Zealand is a testimony of their development. Donald will start his assignment with the Bangladesh side from the upcoming tour of South Africa.

Donald replaced Ottis Gibson for the role as the latter had taken up the head coach role for country club Yorkshire recently. The 55-year-old has worked as a bowling consultant or coach for various teams including the New Zealand in the 2011 World Cup and for the South Africa in 2011. Apart from that, he has worked closely with domestic sides as well as for County sides as a bowling coach.

His recent coaching stints included working with the Sri Lankan side in ICC Champions Trophy 2017 and has been part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore set up as well in IPL. His experience in international cricket is priceless and was one of the best pacers to have played for South Africa in his prime.

Allan Donald’s numbers in international cricket

Donald clocked good speeds continuously in the 1990s and picked up more than 600 international wickets in just 236 games across formats at a brilliant average. He was nicknamed the ‘white lightning’ and alongside Shaun Pollock, he left a lot of nightmares for the batters with their bowling partnerships. Donald has 22 five-wicket hauls in international cricket over his ten-year career span and had immense battles with a lot of players.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh has won the three-match ODI series 2-1 against Afghanistan and have started their T20I series on a good note as well with a comfortable win. With one more game to go, Bangladesh will be eager to keep their winning run going ahead.
