The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) decided on Saturday to build an international cricket stadium in the country after the name of the current prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, in Dhaka’s Purbachal area over the next three years. The decision was taken at a meeting of the board of directors with BCB president Nazmul Hasan Papon presiding it.

The board also thanked Hasina, the 71-year-old cricket-loving prime minister, for allocating nearly 38 acres in Purbachal for the new state-of-the-art cricket stadium complex. Hasina, daughter of Bangladesh’s founding father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, completes a decade in the chair of the prime minister this year and won her third straight term recently.

The board has decided to invite an EOI for the consultancy for the stadium project. An implementation committee will also be formed to oversee the construction of the venue, United News of Bangladesh reported. Bangladesh, who made their Test debut in November 2000, has five venues for the longer format. As per the International Cricket Council’s rankings, Bangladesh are placed at the ninth position in Tests, seventh in ODIs and 10th in T20Is.

BCB includes 17 players in national team contract

The BCB also decided to include 17 players in the national team contract for the calendar year 2019. The board chief announced the names after the meeting held at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka. Imrul Kayes, who was ignored last year because of low form, has been included in the contract under Grade ‘A’ while southpaw Nazmul Hossain Shanto lost his place because of a poor show.

In 2018, there were 13 players in the central contract while four more players were included this time.

The players in the new central contract: (Grade ‘A+’): Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudullah Riyad (Grade ‘A’): Mustafizur Rahman, Imrul Kayes and Rubel Hossain (Grade ‘B’): Mominul Haque, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Liton Kumer Das and Taijul Islam & (Rookies): Abu Jayed Rahi, Saif Uddin, Nayeem Hasan, Abu Hider Rony and Khaled Ahmed.
