Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shaharyar Khan confirmed that a high-performance team from Bangladesh will tour Pakistan in July this year. While the dates of the tour have not been finalized, the PCB chairman was confident of Bangladesh’s participation.

Touring Pakistan is still considered a risky proposition post the deadly attack on Sri Lanka’s national cricket team in 2009. Recently Bangladesh Cricket Board turned down the PCB’s invitation to play T20’s in Pakistan but look fairly interested in sending a high-performance team.

“Bangladesh is agreeable to send its high-performance team to Pakistan, which is a big step,” ESPNcricinfo quoted Shaharyar as saying.

“They will play in Pakistan against our high-performance team. As regards to the national team, they are not yet ready to come to Pakistan but we could play either in Bangladesh or in a third country, which is acceptable to both sides, or we could even do it in Sri Lanka.”

He further highlighted that the ICC wants the high-performance teams to play in the month of July. “I think this time around the ICC wants [the high-performance teams] to play in July, but we will finalize the actual dates later. Neutral venue [for the senior teams’ series] is a possibility. These days, Dubai is our neutral venue but it’s very expensive. So we might play in Sri Lanka, if they are free at that time.” Shaharyar said.

Earlier last month, a huge step towards the return of top-notch cricket to Pakistan was taken by the PCB when they decided to hold the PSL final at Lahore on March 5. The game was smoothly operated amidst high security. PCB knows that there is still a long way to go for international cricket to fully return in Pakistan but adequate measures are in place to fast-track the process.

Shaharya along with the heads of Sri Lanka Cricket and BCB heads: Thilanga Sumathipala and Nazmul Hassan, attended an informal meeting in Colombo to discuss Asian Cricket Council affairs.

Reportedly, there has been a disagreement between BCB and PCB as the former refused to compensate the latter for turning down an international tour due to safety reasons. PCB had also in the past toured the shores of Bangladesh and termed that tour ‘technically’ a home series and demanded a share in the revenues of the series something which didn’t go down well with the BCB.

PCB were keen to go ahead with a similar tour this year as well but the BCB declined the proposal saying that they are open to play in a neutral venue instead.

Pakistan now are in talks with Sri Lanka to host them for a ‘home’ series for their national team as their previous adopted home – UAE is very expensive.
