Bangladesh Notch up a Famous Win Vanquishing India Convincingly- Bangladesh v India 1st ODI Review: In what was one of the more popular wins by Bangladesh against India, the home fans delighted and rejoiced for what they got to witness as Bangladesh beat India by 79 runs. It was only the third victory for Bangladesh against India in the last 15 years. Many expected the Indian side to prevail over Bangladesh but the Bangladeshi Tigers had other plans for the night.

Batting first, Bangladeshi openers were in a mood to thwack and bludgeon the balls for boundaries all over the park. The Indian pacers were listless conceding far too many runs. The team hundred came up in 79 balls, the fastest by Bangladesh against a top 8 team. This caused MS Dhoni to entrust the responsibility to his go to man, Ravichandran Ashwin. Ashwin seldom disappoints Dhoni with a cricket ball in his palm. He struck thrice in quick succession and the Bangladeshi batsmen were forced to keep quiet for a while and take the one’s and two’s.

After Tamim and Sarkar fell for 60 and 54 respectively, the world’s no.1 all rounder in all three formats struck a wonderfully constructed 50 proving his tenacity and hardihood with the bat. Sabbir and Mortaza took the run rate to a more respectable and a pronounced state, cudgeling and pummeling the deliveries for boundaries. At the end, Bangladesh posted 307 which is their highest total against India.

It pretty much explains how Bangladesh cricket has steadily grown by leaps and bounds, forcing people to think that they’ve finally broken the shackles and have emerged out of their infamous tag of ‘minnows’.

Chasing a formidable total, India couldn’t have yearned for a better opening stand. Dhawan and Rohit with their class and dexterity whacked fours at will and cut a swath through the pitch. Dhawan was dismissed cheaply for 30 and the ever dependable Kohli markedly fell for 1 nicking it straight to Mushfiqur Rahim’s sheltered hands bowled by Taskin Ahmed.

Rohit Sharma carried on and struck a wonderful fifty. But he too departed for 68 and failed to convert his innings into a big one. Ajinkya Rahane stuttered and staggered consuming 27 balls for his 9 runs. MS Dhoni a good player of spin normally, surprisingly got outfoxed by a superb one by Shakib that went away from the right hander. Dhoni ended up nicking it behind and Mushfiqur gloved a commendable catch.

Though Raina and Jadeja were at the crease, the departure of MS Dhoni darkened India’s hopes and saddened India’s fans. Raina showed glimpses of brilliance with the bat but fell victim to Mustafiazur Rahman’s out side the off stump delivery. And that shattered the hopes of Indian fans on the pitch and those that followed the match on their television sets.

Jadeja’s short sojourn also came to an end and that was the final nail in the coffin and sounded the death knell. Mustafizur Rahman was the stellar performer of the day as he picked up a brilliant fifer. In the end, Bangladesh notched up a historical win vanquishing the Indian team quite convincingly by 79 runs. The victory today was a statement made by the Bangladesh team that they have finally emerged as the ones to beat and can no longer be infamously branded as minnows.

Brief score:

Bangladesh-307 all out in 49.4 overs (Tamim Iqbal 60, R. Ashwin 3-58)
India– 229 all out in 46 overs (Rohit Sharma 68, Mustafizur Rahman 5-50) lost by 79 runs
