One of the major reasons for Bangladesh making giant strides in International Cricket and removal of the tag of minnows from their country, Bangladesh Head Coach Chandika Hathurusingha, has the trust of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to continue with his position even though Sri Lankans are queued up for his services. The President of Bangladesh Cricket Board, Nazmul Hassan reaffirmed the status of his contract with the board.

Since he was appointed as the head coach of the Bangladesh Cricket Team, the fortunes of the team took a massive turn around and presently, Bangladeshis are one of the potent forces in World Cricket. Bangladesh recently defeated New Zealand in the Champions Trophy to reach the semi-finals of the Champions Trophy. They also defeated the English side in the World Cup of 2015 to book the quarter-final berth of the premier ODI event.

The likes of Tamim Iqbal, Shakib Al Hasan, and Mahmudullah have gained the superstar status in World Cricket under the coaching style of Hathurusingha. He is also responsible for fueling in a fresh pair of exciting legs in Bangladesh Cricket every now and then, as we have seen the likes of Sabbir Rehman and Mehedi Hasan all set to establish themselves at the World stage.

Sri Lanka queued up for the services of Chandika Hathurusingha

Despite being from a Sri Lankan origin, BCB is interested for him to continue until the 2019 World Cup at least and they trust the 48-year to stay with the team. Sri Lanka has shown interest in the services of the former opening batsman after Graham Ford resigned from his post mid-way through his 45-month contract post-Sri Lanka’s Champions Trophy exit.

“Anyone can want him as coach, but we have not spoken to him about (Sri Lanka). We have a contract with him until World Cup 2019. We are confident he will stay up to that period. Those interested in the high profile position included Sri Lankans,” commented Nazmul Hassan according to Wisden India.
