Bangladesh fast bowler Robiul Islam has decided to call it quits from all formats of the game at the highest level. He played for his country in September 2014 in a Test match against the Windies and since then was on the sidelines. Robiul was never considered for the selection after which he has finally to hang his boots only at the age of 32.

Unlike modern cricketers, Robiul made his international debut in the longest format of the game against England at the Lord’s way back in 2010. He is also the first Bangladeshi cricketer to be adjudged Man of the Series in the Tests when he picked 14 wickets in the two-match series against Zimbabwe in Harare.

Despite starring with the red ball, Robiul Islam couldn’t extend his Test career beyond nine Test matches in which he accounted for 25 scalps at an average of 39.68 and had a couple of five-wicket hauls to his name.

Record holder Robiul

According to bdcrictime, Robiul took the decision to retire from all the formats after being ignored for several years from the national team.

In the series against Zimbabwe, Robiul Islam also became the first Bangladeshi paceman to deliver as many as 110 overs in a series and showcased amazing fitness. It was surprising to see that a bowler like him didn’t find a place in the Test side, the format in which Bangladesh has struggled especially in overseas conditions.

After three years of his Tests debut, Robiul managed to make his ODI debut in 2013. But his exploits in the limited-overs format was limited to that tour of Zimbabwe only. He played three matches and went on to pick only a couple of wickets. On the same tour, he made his T20I debut and that turned out to be his last game in the format. Robiul failed to pick a wicket in that encounter.
