Bangladesh had their moments in the first Test against England at Chittagong but failed to grab opportunities and allowed the opposition to make a comeback. After picking up early wickets, Bangladesh failed to clean up England’s lower order in both the innings.

Even with the bat, the hosts lost their last 6 wickets for just 27 runs to miss on taking a crucial lead. At the end of the 3rd day, England lead by 273 runs with 2 wickets in hand. Here we look at all the stats and records recorded so far in this test.

1 – England lost their 3rd wicket for 21 and 28 respectively in this Test. Last time England lost their first three wickets for less than 30 runs in both innings of a Test was against South Africa in 2005 at Centurion. First such instance for them in a Test in Asia.

2 – Bangladesh’s 2nd innings was the 2nd instance for them in Tests where two spinners opened the bowling for them. Other instance was in 2014/15 at Khulna vs Zimbabwe.

2 – Shakib Al Hasan became the first Bangladeshi spinner to take two 5-wicket hauls while opening the bowling in Tests. Overall, he is the 16th spinner to take two 5-wicket hauls while opening the bowling in Tests.

5 – Total runs added for 2nd and 3rd wicket in this Test by England, joint 2nd lowest runs added for 2nd and 3rd wicket in a Test for a team.

6/80 – Mehedi Hasan’s 6/80 in the first innings are the 2nd best figures on debut for a Bangladeshi. Sohan Gazi’s 6/74 are the best figures.

7 – Number of consecutive fifty plus stands England had for the 6th wicket in Tests. Their streak began in the 2nd innings of the recent 2nd Test against Pakistan.

10 – Number of spinners bowled in this Test so far. Only once more than 10 spinners bowled in a Test.

16 – Runs aggregated by Alastair Cook in this Test. Last time a visiting team captain aggregated less than 20 runs in a Test in Asia was Michael Clarke in Dubai in 2014 vs Pakistan. He scored 2 and 3 respectively in that game.

64.77 – Tamim Iqbal’s batting average of 64.77 against England in Tests. He has 7 fifty plus scores against them in 9 innings.

154 – Wickets taken by Shakib Al Hasan in Test cricket. He became the 10th left-arm spinner to take 150+ wickets in test cricket.

1091 – Runs scored by Bairstow as wicketkeeper in this year in Tests, the most by a wicket-keeper in a calendar year in Tests. He went past Andy Flower who aggregated 1045 runs in 2000.

1982 – Last time England used 4 or more spinners in an innings in Tests was in 1982 against India at Kanpur. They used Gareth Batty, Adil Rashid, Moeen Ali and Joe Root in their first innings.

1998 – Mehedi Hasan’s bowling figures of 6/80 in the first innings of this Test are the best figures by a spinner in the first innings of a Test since Kumara Dharmasena’s 6/72 vs NZ at Galle in 1998.
