The Bangladesh cricket team is currently in the West Indies where they recently took part in a two-match Test series. They succumbed to comprehensive defeats in both matches in Antigua and Jamaica respectively. Mashrafe Mortaza’s men will now play a three-match ODI series, which starts on July 22. Meanwhile, the team is in the middle of a conundrum in the form of injury-prone Mustafizur Rahman.

He played his last international match back in March against India. The fast-bowler played for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL and picked up a toe injury owing to which he was ruled out of Bangladesh’s three-match T20I series against Afghanistan at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Dehradun.

It’s just not acceptable

Quite expectantly, his injuries have turned out to be a major concern for the team management. Meanwhile, Nazmul Hasan, the President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board mentioned that the pacer won’t be available for selection in domestic T20 events around the globe for the next two years.

”I have told him that he will not be available abroad [for franchise based tournaments] for the next two years. It cannot go on like this. He will pick up injuries while playing in the franchise league and won’t be available to perform national duty. It’s just not acceptable.

It cannot go on that he will be undergoing rehabilitation to recover from injuries under the care of the board, join those leagues again only to have a similar fortune,” Hasan was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

Mustafizur made his international debut back in April 2015 in a T20I against Pakistan at Dhaka. Soon after, he made his ODI debut and turned out to be one of the brightest prospects of their cricket. Nevertheless, he suffered a shoulder injury while playing in the 2016 T20 Blast.

In 2017, he injured his ankle while warming up with a football drill on the tour of South Africa due to which he missed the start of the Bangladesh Premier League. The national team will now be hoping for their premier pacer to recover quickly and make a comeback to competitive cricket.
