Sunrisers Hyderabad’s left-arm seamer Barinder Sran has been fined 10 per cent of his match fees for inappropriate behaviour during their game against Mumbai Indians yesterday.
The match referee deemed Sran’s conduct contrary to the spirit of the game. The left-arm pacer admitted to the level 1 offence (Article 2.1.7 of the IPL Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials) and accepted the sanction. For all Level 1 breaches of the IPL Code of Conduct, the match referee’s decision is final and binding.
An IPL release said Sran pleaded guilty to the offence, though it did not specify what it was. It is likely that Sran was fined for sending off Mumbai Indians opener Parthiv Patel; Sran clapped his hands and showed Parthiv the way back to the dressing room immediately after bowling him with a slower delivery.
Sran, however, had a very productive day with the yesterday as the young sensation returned with figures of 3/28. His victims of the match were Parthiv Patel, Jos Buttler and Ambati Rayudu. His spell along with Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mustafizur Rahman’s miserly bowling at the death restricted Mumbai Indians to just 142/6 in 20 overs.
Skipper David Warner, who has been shouldering the batting responsibility of the team, then put on a masterclass in chasing and struck a fluent 90 run knock to ensure a comfortable 7 wicket win. This win helped Sunrisers Hyderabad secure their first win of the season and open their account in the points table.
