Mosaddek Hossain included in Bangladesh squad for first Test against SL

The Sri Lankan squad is expected to arrive in Bangladesh on May 8 for a two-match Test series that is a part of the 2021-2023 ICC World Test Championship. The first Test will be played at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium (ZACS) in Chattogram while the second Test will take place at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Dhaka on 23 May.

Mosaddek Hossain has represented Bangladesh in three Test matches

The 26-year-old has represented Bangladesh in only three Test matches – the last of which was against Afghanistan back in September 2019 in Chattogram. However, the right-handed batter has performed exceptionally well in the recently-completed Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, where the batter amassed 658 runs as well as scalped 16 wickets in 15 matches for his side Abahani Limited.

“Mosaddek was injured after playing two first-class games so he could not play either in the National Cricket League or the Bangladesh Cricket League (the first-class competitions). We have included him as we feel if we play four bowlers then we might need someone who can bat down the order,” Habibul Bashar member of the senior men’s team’s selection panel was quoted by Cricbuzz.

Talking about his ODI numbers, the 26-year-old has played 40 matches in which he has scored 620 runs at a decent average of 25.83. He also has three fifties to his name. Mosaddek has also played 16 T20Is for his country scoring 200 runs.
