Batters sneak three runs out of nowhere during hilarious mix-up in ECS Czech Republic match

In an ECS Czech Republic game between Prague Barbarians and Vinohrady on June 9 (Thursday), a hilarious mix-up between the Vinohrady fielders, as the batters sneak three runs off a dot ball, has been making rounds on social media platforms. A commentator on air called it an “ECN (European Cricket Network) classic”. It all began in the third over of the first innings with Vinohrady bowler Arshad Hayat bowling a delivery that was wide of off-stump which the Barbarians batter Jahanur Hoque missed. The keeper, following the miss, attempted to stump the batter with an underarm throw but missed the stumps. This began an array of errors with misdirected throws and fumbles, while the running batters survived three runouts off the same delivery. ‘They could of got 4’ – Brad Hogg on the hilarious mix-up Former Australia bowler Brad Hogg observed that Barbarians batter Andrew Sim did not ground his bat while completing his runs, adding that they could have run four if he had it grounded. Barbarians, however, lost the ten-over match after Vinohrady chased a target of 86 by six wickets. In the first innings, Murali Vandrasi, at number three, top-scored with 37 runs, and Sim scored a crucial 18. The innings were also marred with extras, as the Vinohrady bowlers conceded 13 wides, one no-ball, and five leg-byes. Joe Cope, however, bowled a disciplined two overs, conceding only four runs and picking up one wicket. Hayat finished with the best figures of three wickets for 13 runs in his two overs. Skipper Venkatesh Marghashayam, at number six, scored an unbeaten 12 runs and helped them chase in 9.1 overs. Pankaj Pundir, for Barbarians, ended with bowling figures of one wicket for 17 runs in two overs. There were six wides and two no-balls in the innings. A video capturing the mix-up was posted by a Twitter user. Hogg retweeted the post, saying “A Sim needs to learn to ground his bat and save himself extra running. They could of got 4.”
