Hobart Hurricanes clinched an 8-run win over the Perth Scorchers on Sunday as D’Arcy Short scored an unbeaten century. The Hurricanes’ batting struggled most of the innings to play big shots. But Short’s acceleration in the 2nd half and the last five overs powered Hurricanes to 180/2.

D’Arcy finished unbeaten on 103 off 70 balls as he completed his century with a six on the last ball of the innings. In reply, the Scorchers lost three wickets inside three overs only. Some late strikes from the Scorchers helped in narrowing the losing margin.

All the statistical highlights from Hobart Hurricanes’ close win over the Perth Scorchers:

Four in a row for the Hurricanes:

4 – The Hobart Hurricanes now have won each of their last four BBL matches against the Perth Scorchers. The streak began from the 71-run win in the 2017-18 season semi-final. Scorchers won six in a row over the Hurricanes before this losing streak against them.

A slow hundred:

70 – D’Arcy Short batted 70 balls during his unbeaten ton; the joint-most balls faced by any player in a Big Bash League inning. Three other players also faced exactly 70 balls during a BBL inning.

4 – D’Arcy became only the 4th player with multiple hundreds in the Big Bash League. Craig Simmons, Luke Wright and Usman Khawaja also scored two centuries apiece in the BBL.

3 – He is now the 3rd player to score a century in the BBL against the Perth Scorchers – 103* by Peter Handscomb for the Melbourne Stars in 2014-15 and 113* by Callum Ferguson for the Sydney Thunder in 2018-19.

Milestones galore for D’Arcy:

7 – D’Arcy Short now has scored fifties against all the seven opposition he has played in the Big Bash League. He is only the 4th player to record fifty-plus scores against seven different opponents. Michael Klinger, Aaron Finch and Shaun Marsh are the other three players to achieve this feat.

Just like D’Arcy, Aaron Finch has played all his matches for the same team in the BBL while Shaun Marsh and Michael Klinger missed out against Brisbane Heat and Adelaide Strikers respectively.
