The Hobart Hurricanes and Perth Scorchers have had pretty similar fortunes in the 2019-20 edition of the BBL. Both teams have won two matches while losing three. Their net run rate is also similar at -0.624 and -0.641. The Hurricanes and Scorchers are set to cross swords in the second of Sunday’s doubleheader at Perth Stadium. The Mitchell Marsh-led Scorchers are in a positive frame of mind.

They beat the Brisbane Heat by 40 runs, bowling the opposition out for a mere 109. The Hurricanes, on the other hand, have lost two matches on the trot against Melbourne Stars and Brisbane Heat. The defeat against Chris Lynn’s Heat was by 31 runs. On head-to-head count, the Scorchers have a 6-5 lead. But at the Perth Stadium, the Hurricanes have won both their games against the Scorchers.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch at the Perth Stadium is pretty good for batting. But the track has shown signs of slowing down a wee bit and spinners have gotten assistance. In the first two matches, the team, batting first came out trumps and chasing can be a tad tricky. The playing conditions will be sunny with the temperature around the 28 degrees Celsius mark. The humidity will mostly be in the 30s.

Team Combination

Perth Scorchers

The Scorchers have named an unchanged squad for the game. And it won’t be a surprise if they field an unchanged eleven as well. Mitchell Marsh, Cameron Bancroft, Josh Inglis and Liam Livingstone have in excess of 100 runs. Turner has strained with form though. Jordan and Fawad have been key with eight and seven wickets respectively. The rest of the bowling has been reasonable as well.

Probable XI

Josh Inglis (wk), Liam Livingstone, Cameron Bancroft, Ashton Turner, Mitchell Marsh (C), Ashton Agar, Cameron Green, Chris Jordan, Jhye Richardson, Matthew Kelly, Fawad Ahmed

Hobart Hurricanes

Fast bowler Tom Rogers has replaced James Faulkner in the squad. The latter injured his calf in the previous match and will have scans to determine the extent of the injury. D’Arcy Short and Ben McDermott are leading the run-charts, having scored in excess of 100 runs. On a slow strip, Riley Meredith and Qais Ahmad’s role will be important. The others have been good enough.

Probable XI

D’Arcy Short, Caleb Jewel, Ben McDermott (C & WK), David Miller, George Bailey, Simon Milenko, Nathan Ellis, Clive Rose, Qais Ahmad, Riley Meredith, Tom Rogers
