Melbourne Renegades pulled off a thrilling win at their home ground against Melbourne Stars on Wednesday. Nick Larkin’s unbeaten 47-ball 61 guided the Stars to end up with 158/6 after scoring 41 runs in the last 3.1 overs. The Renegades’ chase went barely ahead of the six an over as they were 97/5 by 15.3 overs and still needed 62 from 27 balls. Just when the chase began to look impossible, Mackenzie Harvey (47* off 21 balls) and Beau Webster (22* off 9) added 63 runs for the 6th wicket in only 25 balls to seal a 5-wicket win for the Renegades.

Here are all the statistical highlights from Melbourne Renegades’ 5-wicket win during the REN vs STA game:

Renegades’ rare win over the Stars:

3 – Melbourne Renegades have defeated Melbourne Stars for only the 3rd time in the ten meetings at the Docklands Stadium in Melbourne. Renegades got the better of the Stars in their first-ever meet at this venue in 2012-13 season and during the final of the 2018-19 season which brought an end to their 6-match losing streak here against the Stars.

6-14 – The REN vs STA game was only the 6th time when the Melbourne Renegades beat the Melbourne Stars in the BBL and the first time since winning the 2018-19 season final also at the Docklands Stadium. Stars won 14 games against the Renegades which are the most number of wins for any team against an opponent in the BBL.

Yet another maiden over from Lalor:

4 – Josh Lalor’s maiden over during REN vs STA game was his 4th maiden in the Big Bash League. These are now the most number of maidens bowled by any player in the BBL. Jackson Bird, Mitchell Johnson, and Kane Richardson also bowled four maidens apiece in the league.

Coulter-Nile moves up the order:

4 – Nathan Coulter-Nile was promoted to No.4 by the Melbourne Stars in this game where he bagged a golden duck. This was the 7th instance of Coulter-Nile batting in the top four in his T20 career; all of them in the BBL. Three times he has batted at No.4 and batted as high as No.3 on four occasions.

The REN vs STA game was the 4th instance of Coulter-Nile getting out for a duck in the BBL and also the 2nd such instance while playing for the Stars.

9 – The 3-wicket haul by Nathan Coulter-Nile during the REN vs STA game was the 9th instance of him picking 3+ wickets in a BBL game. Only five bowlers have had more 3+ wicket hauls in the Big Bash League with Kane Richardson (14) topping the list.

A good debut season for Hatzoglou:

15 – Peter Hatzoglou has claimed 15 wickets across 11 games in the BBL 2020-21 thus far which are the 2nd most number of wickets in the debut season for Melbourne Renegades. Cameron Boyce earned 16 scalps during the 2018-19 season but had played 16 matches in that edition.

Boyce’s 16 wickets in 2018-19 and Hatzoglou’s 15 wickets in 2020-21 season are also the top two most number of wickets by a spinner in a BBL edition for Melbourne Renegades.
