Ben Hilfenhaus smashed 32 extremely important runs to ensure that the Melbourne Stars went ahead and secured an important win over the Adelaide Strikers at the iconic and historic Melbourne Cricket Ground. This humdinger was one of the most impressive wins as far as the Stars were concerned given the fact that their semi-final hopes were dented quite a bit in recent times.

After being put into bat by the Melbourne Stars, Ben Dunk began to race away to what looked like yet another half-century. While he was en route, Jake Weatherald was dismissed by Scot Boland. The latter would be one of the key bowlers for the Strikers as he would go on to take a few more crucial wickets as the game went along.

The Strikers’ middle order was marred by starts as Tom Ludeman and Brad Hodge also chipped in with scores of 26 and 16 respectively. Kieron Pollard was one of the few who was tasked with the role of finishing the innings as he smashed a quickfire 23. However, he became Boland’s fourth and final victim of the evening as the Strikers amassed a par score of 152 in their 20 overs.

In what was supposed to be a rather simple chase for the likes of Rob Quiney and the returning Peter Handscomb, it was quite clear that the slower bowlers such as Ben Laughlin would have a lot of joy bowling to the batsmen. Luke Wright, Peter Handscomb, and Marcus Stoinis were dismissed in a hurry as Rob Quiney also had little joy in amassing his 31.

Kevin Pietersen also added a quick 32 before it was down to Evan Gulbis and Ben Hilfenhaus to ensure a win. It was eventually Hilfenhaus who played his way to an important 32 as the Stars secured a win with three deliveries remaining.

Brief Scores:

Adelaide Strikers: 152/8 in 20 overs (B Dunk 35; S Boland 4/30)

Melbourne Stars: 153/8 in 19.3 overs (K Pietersen 32; B Laughlin 3/19)
