Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) witnessed a highly surprising event today after the management sacked association president Samarjitsinh Gaekwad on Sunday (July 17) afternoon. The decision to remove Gaekwad as BCA president, according to the managing committee led by the revival group, was taken by hundreds of members present during the AGM at Sayaji Nagargruh.

Apparently, Gaekwad’s behaviors seem to be the reason which provoked the members to bring a ‘no-confidence’ motion against the president which led to 600 people voting in favor of his ouster. It is for the first time in Baroda ‘s history that such has been taken decision where a sitting president has been taken.

“When we were discussing the key issues, Gaekwad got up and said that the meeting has been concluded. He cannot conclude the meeting as the accounts and other items on the agenda had not been passed. The meeting has to be adjourned with the permission of the members but he chose to walk out,” said Snehal Parikh, the BCA (in-charge) secretary, told the Times of India after an emergent managing committee was called on Sunday evening to ratify the AGM proceedings.

“BCA member Kamal Pandya brought a no-confidence motion against Gaekwad and over 600 members present in the AGM voted to remove him as the president. So we asked vice-president Jitendra Patel to chair the AGM. Patel was unanimously selected as the chairman of the AGM and he is now the new president of the BCA.”

Gaekwad, however, said after the AGM that he as the chairman had adjourned the meet and hence he wasn’t aware of any decisions taken later.

“I don’t know which members voted against me. I am still the president of BCA and it is for them to prove that I no longer hold the post,” Gaekwad said. He hinted that, if necessary, he may approach the court of law.
