Andrew Hall may not be one of the greatest cricketers South Africa has ever produced. But he was a valuable player in the Proteas lineup. He made his debut way back in 1999 in an ODI versus the West Indies at the Kingsmead in Durban. Three years later, he forayed into Test cricket against Australia at the Newlands in Cape Town. However, his career only lasted until July 2007.

His last international appearance came in an ODI versus India in Belfast. He ended up playing 21 Tests, 88 ODIs and a couple of T20Is in which he scored 760, 905 and 11 runs respectively. He also notched six half-centuries and a solitary century at the highest level. Hall was no mug with the ball either, having picked up 147 wickets with three-four-fers and one five-wicket haul.

He was a part of South Africa’s World Cup squad back in 2007, but was left out for the T20 World Cup in the same year. The exclusion made Hall announce his retirement from international cricket. Hall thereafter signed the Kolpak deal and played for Northamptonshire. He also captained the Mashonaland Eagles to victory in the inaugural Zimbabwean T20 competition.

On July 31, the Johannesburg-born all-rounder turned 44 and he was showered with wishes. The International Cricket Council (ICC) also took the chance to wish the all-round cricketer. However, the official Twitter handle of the apex cricket board ended up making a mistake.

The ICC uploaded Charl Langeveldt’s photo instead of Hall and wrote their message for the latter. But later, the board deleted the tweet. The ICC, though, didn’t miss out on the opportunity of hailing Hall as one of South Africa’s finest fast bowling all-rounders.

In the meantime, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) jumped in after seeing ICC’s error. Recently, Langeveldt was appointed as the Tigers’ bowling coach, replacing Courtney Walsh. Langeveldt also played quite a significant amount of cricket for South Africa in the international circuit. He was roped in along with former New Zealand cricketer Daniel Vettori.
