BCB refuse to play Day-Night Test during their New Zealand tour
They will play a three-match Test series away from home for the first time in 11 years.
Bangladesh is set to tour New Zealand in February 2019 for 3 One-Day Internationals and the same number of Test matches. New Zealand Cricket (NZC) announced the schedule of their home summer on Tuesday which also included the Tigers touring their country next year. However, it was also mentioned that the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) refused to play the Day-Night Test match during their tour.
The three-match ODI series will commence on February 13 in Napier as the following two matches will be played in Christchurch and Dunedin. The Test series will get underway from February 28 in Hamilton and the tour will conclude on March 20 with the third and final Test match to be held in Christchurch.
Why did BCB refuse?
BCB, on Tuesday, had cleared that they refused to play the Day-Night Test against the Kiwis at the insistence of the team management and players. However, Nizamuddin Chowdhury, the chief of the cricket board, has now come up with the statement that their failure to introduce Day-Night games at the domestic level led to them saying no to NZC.
“We have been looking at it positively, but since our players don’t have an opportunity to play D/N matches in domestic longer version tournaments, we felt that it wouldn’t be right to play a D/N Test,” he said while speaking to Cricbuzz.
He believed that the players should be given some time to adapt to the pink ball and also assured that the matches will soon be held under the lights at the domestic level. “We need to give our players time to adapt to it. e are looking at trying pink ball (matches) at the domestic level first, and then play a D/N Test at home. After that, we want to play D/N away Tests,” Chowdhury added.
Bangladesh is currently involved in the three-match T20I series against Windies and have lost the first game of the series. They will now to travel to Florida where the remaining two matches will be played.
