The Indian cricket team is scheduled to play a number of matches in the calendar year, which includes both overseas tours as well as the home series. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will announce the list of venues for the next home season, later in the day. Normally, the board doesn’t reveal the venues or the dates of the home fixtures in advance, but the major objective of this prior revelation to communicate to the public about the venues for the upcoming matches in their respective cities.
The BCCI wants to avoid the last-minute hassles
It is also learned that only a tentative list of matches would be announced along with the month in which the series is slated to be contested. By sharing the advance notice with the public it also benefits the BCCI at large to avoid the logistical hassles, which have happened a lot in the past times. It is also a notable aspect that the State associations require sufficient amount of time to work out their own respective programmes and schedules.
“There have been a lot of logistical hassles in the past, with venues being finalized mere weeks before the match date. State associations need time to work out their own programmes. Last year a lot of India ‘A’ matches and Ranji Trophy matches overlapped. Some players had to opt out of domestic matches to be fit for international matches. If regular India players can travel with the ‘A’ team to England before the actual series starts, they can get adequate match practice,” said a BCCI official as quoted by the TOI.
Team India will be on the road for most part of 2018, as a list of overseas tours are lined up which includes England, then the trips to Australia and New Zealand. They will host the Afghanistan team for a Test match, which will mark their debut in the longest format in an exclusive Test match in June at the Eden Gardens.
After the England tour, India will participate in the Asia Cup and a home series against the visiting Windies team, which will be consisting of 2 Tests, 5 ODIs and 3 T20I matches.
