BCCI announce India Women's squad for the tour of Sri Lanka

The India women’s team will tour Sri Lanka for a three-match Twenty20 International (T20I) series and three-match One-day International series, commencing on June 23. All the T20I matches will be played in Dambulla and the ODI matches in Kandy. In the latest turn, India also announced their squad for both formats. Batter Harmanpreet Kaur will lead the Indian team in both formats alongside the vice-captain Smriti Mandhana. Youngsters Simran Bahadur and Richa Ghosh, make the squad, alongside a few experienced campaigners such as leg-spinner Poonam Yadav and left-arm orthodox bowler Rajeshwari Gayakwad. Jemimah Rodrigues left out from the India ODI squad Top-order batter Jemimah Rodrigues, and Radha Yadav have been picked for the T20I squad but have been left out from the ODI squad. On the other hand, wicketkeeper Taniya Bhatia and batter Harleen Deol have been picked for the ODIs and left out for the T20Is. India will miss the services of former Indian captain Mithali Raj, who retired from all forms of the game after 23 years on June 8 (Wednesday). She is the leading run-getter for India in ODIs and also the youngest cricketer to score a double hundred in Women’s Test cricket at the age of 19. She is also the second player to score 10,000 runs in Women’s international cricket. With Raj’s retirement, a few young faces who made the squad have a good opportunity to cement their place in the team. The T20Is will be played between June 23 and June 27, and the ODIs will be played between July 1 and July 7.
