The old guard of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Kapil Sibal has lashed out at the Lodha Committee following a few of the decisions he believes that should not have been taken by them in the first place. Reports suggest that the top bosses in the framework of the BCCI had emailed the Lodha panel requesting their approval for the transferring franchise fees received by IPL teams to the imprest account.

This imprest mechanism has been set up for the minor reimbursements maintained by the board for small operating costs. This is also a fixed balance that continues to be replenished time and again. Sibal, who is also a national politician with the Indian National Congress, went on to add that the procedure opted by the Committee is a completely wrong one.

“Earlier too the Lodha Committee were taking decisions which they were not supposed to. And now they have started to take decisions on finance too, how can they take such kinds of decision? It’s franchise fees, tomorrow if we have to return that amount to any of the franchises, from where we will repay them? The procedure opted is wrong,” a BCCI member said.

In recent times, the Lodha panel has been responsible for the ousting of the top brass of the BCCI. While it was just the duo of Ajay Shirke and Anurag Thakur who lost their jobs to the whirlwind, it was clear that the wave has now seen much more also resign from their respective positions when it comes to state boards as well.

Further reports suggest that the sanctioned amount is approximately 34 crores, something that the BCCI can use to pay the vendors and other departments. Rahul Johri, the CEO of the Board is one of those whose signature is authorized as far as the imprest account is concerned. Santosh Rangnekar and Game Development manager Ratnakar Shetty also have signatory authority as well.
