The Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auctions are slated to be held on 12th and 13th February 2022 in Bangalore. And, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has now decided to extend the deadline date for the enrolment of the players to 20th January 2022.

England cricketer Ben Stokes as well as Australian pacers Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins are now having second thoughts as to whether they should enroll their names for the mega auctions due to the extended time that they would be spending in the bubble.

Also, England Test skipper Joe Root had earlier said that he will not give his name for the IPL auctions as he wants to focus all his energies on Test match cricket. Root also added that he is ready to do a lot of sacrifices for the England Test side.

“I didn’t (give name for auction), no, I think that there’s a lot that we need to do for this team, which deserves all of my energy. I really hope I get the opportunity to do it. I’ll keep sacrificing as much as I can because I care so much about Test cricket in our country and trying to get us to where we can,” Joe Root said after the 5th Ashes Test match.

I have not put my name down just yet: Mitchell Starc

Aussie pacer Mitchell Starc said that he still has a few days left to complete the paperwork if he wants to put forward his name for the IPL auctions. Starc also added that participating in the IPL is certainly on his mind.

“I’ve got two days to get my paperwork in, so that might be something to do today before training. I’ve not put my name down just yet, but I’ve got a couple more days to decide on that. It’s certainly on the table regardless of what the schedule has got coming up,” concluded Mitchell Starc.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is also planning to host the league in Sri Lanka or South Africa if the Covid-19 situation worsens in India.
