BCCI hints at use of Decision Review System in IPL 2016

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) which has strongly opposed the use of the Decision Review System (DRS) so far might use it in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

BCCI has always had a tough stance over the use of the technology but has for the first time decided for the change.

Rajeev Shukla, the chairman of the IPL Governing Council, said that the discussion for the use of DRS has started.

“There is a proposal to use DRS in the IPL minus the Leg Before Wicket (LBW) referrals. We have just started discussing it,” he said in Mumbai on Friday.

BCCI president Shashank Manohar, had also earlier dropped hints that DRS might be used without the ball tracking technology.

With several decisions going against India in successive Test and ODI series in the absence of DRS, the BCCI officials have felt the need of using it.

During the recently concluded five-match ODI series between India and Australia, India suffered due to the absence of DRS.

Indians were not amused of a bad decision during the first one-dayer when George Bailey clearly nicked one off Barinder Sran to Mahendra Singh Dhoni off the first ball and was ruled not out.

The Australians were 21 for two at that stage and Bailey went on to score a century and help the Aussies win the match eventually. In the third match too, Bailey was adjudged not out due to lack of the technology.
