BCCI moves SC to seek clarity on Srinivasan: Owing to considerable difference of opinion within the board over alleged conflict of interest of N Srinivasan, the BCCI has approached the Supreme Court filing a 238 page writ petition to get clarity whether the former board president can be allowed to attend its meetings. The board sought clarification on the apex court’s January 22 order by which Srinivasan was barred from contesting any polls provided he forsakes ownership in Chennai Super Kings IPL team.
Last month, the board was forced to call off its crucial working committee meeting on 28 August which was to discuss the fate of Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League. Srinivasan was adamant to attend the meeting, in his capacity as the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) president but due to the lack of clarity on his legal status, BCCI president Jaghoman Dalmiya had adjourned the meeting.
To seek a way out BCCI’s legal representatives, advocates KK Venugopal and Radha Rangaswamy have filed a 238-page write petition, a copy of which has also been handed over to petitioner in the IPL spot-fixing case Aditya Verma. “My lawyer was handed a copy of the writ filed by the BCCI. On Monday, the case number is expected to be given and then we will come to know the date of the hearing,” Verma told PTI today.
Srinivasan, though, has clarified his position and said he does not have any shares in CSK. This after India Cements Ltd in its board meeting decided to demerge the franchise CSK from ICL (India Cements Ltd) and form a new company called Chennai Super Kings Cricketers Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of ICL. It is expected that once the Supreme Court gives its directive, the BCCI will reconvene the working committee at the earliest to get all the sub-committee reports ratified before the AGM, likely to be held in Kolkata on 27 September.
