Gaining some much-needed confidence out of the unaffected completion of the first round of the Ranji Trophy 2022, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to start the previously postponed Women’s domestic competitions in March.

Both the Senior Women’s Twenty20 championship and the Col CK Nayudu Trophy championships are to be held between March and May. Though the exact dates for the start of the tournaments have not yet been told, Jay Shah suggested that the preparations are underway.

“As we completed the Round 1 of the Ranji Trophy 2021-22, it gives me immense pleasure to apprise you that Sr Women’s T20 and Col CK Naidu trophy – 2021-22 shall take place during the months of March-May2022,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah said in correspondence to the state associations on February 24th ad quoted by Cricbuzz.

“The BCCI will share the draw of the tournaments and biosecurity protocols in due course,” Shah further wrote to the state associations.

The two tournaments were initially supposed to be organized in January and February and were postponed by the BCCI, along with the Ranji Trophy, owing to the omicron variant and the resulting rise in cases. The board had at the time of the postponement commented that they would not want to compromise with the “safety of the players, support staff, match officials and other participants involved.”

The BCCI had also stated that they will continue to gauge the covid situation in the country and accordingly take a decision on the future of the tournaments.

“The BCCI will continue to assess the situation and take a call on the start of the tournaments accordingly,” the BCCI stated in a release on January 4.

No updates on Cooch Behar Trophy Under-19 knockout matches

With the situation now improving, the BCCI is keen on getting the Women’s domestic season underway. This news comes in the wake of recent chatter in Indian cricketing circles that the BCCI should be putting in greater efforts to promote the Women’s game in India.

However, there is no information on the resumption of the Cooch Behar Trophy Under 19 that was postponed at the knockouts stage on January 10th.
