The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided that they will not name the Indian team for the much awaited ICC Champions trophy until the fight for the revenue share in the International Cricket Council (ICC) is over.

The ICC has set a deadline of 25th April for all the teams to announce their squad for the Champions Trophy. But the BCCI is willing to skip that deadline set by the ICC. As ICC meeting is scheduled for April 24th in Dubai where the new ICC financial model will be adopted by the countries and the BCCI plans to announce the team after the meeting.

There had been news that the BCCI could even boycott the Champions Trophy which still could be the case if things do not go their way. However, the Indian is delaying the team selection and is ready to wait till the end.

A top BCCI official quoted to the Indian Express confirming that the selection committee has been kept on hold “We have not informed ICC that the team will be picked late. If needed, we will inform them later but everything will be decided after the ICC meeting. What shall we say to ICC? That we are picking a team which might not play Champions Trophy”

A resolution was passed by the members of the Indian board in the recently concluded SGM to request ICC to retain the “big three” revenue model which was introduced by N.Srinivasan in 2014 and according to which the BCCI was to get a large share of the ICC revenue.

But according to the new model suggested by ICC Chairman Shashank Manohar BCCI would only get 530 million US dollars. According to the ICC rule, all countries are bound to submit their teams by 25th April and any changes in the team can be made only if there is any injury or any other mishap.

Many of the BCCI members were against the idea of India withdrawing from the Champions Trophy but the team has reached a conclusion that they will call another SGM after returning from the ICC meeting to take a decision about the tournament.
