Things are just not falling into place for Dinesh Karthik at the moment. He had a terrible campaign at the World Cup and consequently lost his place in the team for the recently-concluded tour of West Indies. Karthik is also not a part of the upcoming T20I series for South Africa. In fact, it would not be entirely wrong to say that he is unlikely to get another recall from the senior team anytime soon.

And amidst all these, he has received another setback. The BCCI has served him a show-cause notice for attending a promotional event of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) franchise Trinbago Knight Riders. The team is owned by Kolkata Knight Riders owner Shah Rukh Khan. Dinesh Karthik currently leads the Knight Riders in the IPL. A photo of the wicketkeeper-batsman sitting inside the Trinbago Knight Riders dressing room recently went viral.

Karthik, in fact, was sitting alongside Brendon McCullum while wearing the Trinbago jersey. The BCCI also came across the pictures and have now sought an explanation for the same from Karthik.

“Yes, Dinesh Karthik has been issued a show-cause notice by the BCCI. We have received photographs where Karthik is seen in the dressing room of Trinbago Knight Riders. BCCI CEO Rahul Johri has issued a show-cause notice asking him to explain why his central contract shouldn’t be annulled,” a senior BCCI official was quoted as saying by TOI.

“As a centrally contracted cricketer, Dinesh Karthik had no business being seen in a franchise league which is not IPL. His central contract prevents him from being associated with any private league as it has been the BCCI clause for all active first-class cricketers,” the senior official added.

Dinesh Karthik looks to make a mark in domestic cricket

Out of the Indian team, Dinesh Karthik is now back to familiar territories. He is all set to lead Tamil Nadu in the forthcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy – the premium 50-over competition in domestic cricket. The right-hander will be desperate to hit the ground running in order to reclaim his place in the Indian team.
